Hello!
I weigh 235 pounds. Is there a weight limit for windsurfing? I'm looking for just basic sailing. Nothing special.

Abso frikenloutely not! Well maybe there is but it's way above where you are. Question is are you a compact, lethargic 235, or are you an agile strapping 235. makes a big difference more in balance. You just need a larger board that's all 130l and up. Once you can plane and get in the straps a 120 or 115l wave board is not out of the question. There is a sailing bud of the guy who owns surfingsports.com who wave sails on smaller equip. named Will (I believe) there are pic links on the website. I think he is close to your weight.

Hi Cypress,
Dude - go for it. It's just like Jrobb said - you'll just need a slightly larger board. I weight about 220 now, and my mainstay board is a 117 liters. However, I started on a board that was 200+ ... That would probably be a good idea for you too. I'm sure you can do it - I once taught a guy who weighed 280 (and no athlete, either ...) to sail.
Some big guys (and some little guys) will even tell you there's an advantage to being heavier in some aspects of windsurfing - like speed. It's generally accepted that heavier guys can go faster than little guys.
Good luck!

I am 240 LBs (athletic) and I started on a 210 litre board (a water logged klepper 360) last summer. Now that I can tack, somewhat jibe, and plane (during a 40 knot gust) I moved down to a 150 litre hifly superfun. Never had a chance to try yet but Im dyin to!!!

Started windsurfing when I was about 200 in 1987. Just lakes and stuff.
Was 220 in 1996 on a 125 liter Bic Presto. Good on Windy days.
Now am 255 and back to the F2 longboard.
Tried a Bic Techno II 160 last weekend. I may get a formula board to carry my weight. But I like the turning ability of the T2.
Any heavyweights out there try the 148? I like its length compared to the 160. The 160 feels real short.

It acctually ain't that bad. I'm a 214lbs old army grunt used to a logger of a board & when I first got on my new T2 board I sank the nose a bit trying to uphaul & get underway. As I got going though it came out of the water & I was gone like a rocket. I'm still trying to get used to it yet this season. Be sure to move your footstraps all the way forward so when you feel ready to get in them it is a bit easyer. The board did seem a little sesitive on the rails. But that is still just a matter of getting used to it. Tacks s& jibes you have to be quick on for the shorter nose lenth. Otherwise I DEFFINATLY LOVE the new rig. :o
