Question: How can an adventurous windsurfer meet as many sailors as possible between the East coast and the West one?

Answer: Drive from Orlando to Hood River and back, and make some stops on the way.

Here's the gig, kids - WindSurfing's Managing Managing Editor Josh Sampiero (that would be me) 8) Cool is hittin' the road. The ultimate destination is Hood River - but the goal is to see as much of windsurfing America as possible - and meet a ton of windsurfers. If I'm anywhere near you, give me a shout. Fill me in on your area. The hotspots, the people, everything. I want to hang out, meet sailors, trade stories, take pictures, and of course, go windsurfing!

Anyone is of course free to chat with me on my road tirp forum.

I don't promise to be wired everyday, but hope to check in at least once daily.

Thanks, and hope to see some of you out on the water soon!

So Josh ,

Do you have a game plan as far as travels or are you just drifting with the wind. I'm sure your journey will bring you to the Bay Area...right?

Hey Ya'll -

Thanks for checking in! I'm sorry to have been out of touch - I've been having trouble logging into our forum, and it was tough getting it resolved on the road.

Kyle - you should NOT have told me that. 4.0! Shoot. That's rough.

Hopefully, I'll be seeing plenty of 4.0 wind sometime soon, though.

Scored a great sesh here in Worthington yesterday, all afternoon out on the lake with locals Bill Keitel, Jeff Hegwer, and Lisa Kremer.

Glad the Jeri article gotcha stoked!

Josh has been sited in Hood River. Rumor has it he is responsible for shutting down the wind for windfest this weekend

Now the question is whether he'll head to the coast for epic conditions or perhaps to Stevenson for some east winds?

Yep, I'm here!

Sorry for shutting the wind off.

I didn't get Stevenson this morning, but look to be headed there tomorrow. Not sure yet where we'll be sailing. I won't be taking my truck with me, but riding w/ some friends - if you see a white van w/ Colorado plates that say "Hurley", come say hi!

We'll be back in HR on Tuesday evening for Wednesday's westerly winds - look for me in the blue dodge pick-up.

Hi Josh - well I never did see the van on the eastwind days at Stevenson but how was your session there Tuesday on west winds? Also, I bet the water at the coast was a little colder then what you are use to in Florida? You are too late for the dawn patrol session today - but if you stick in the corridor the wind should be there for you all day!

Yo Local,

We ended up booking it straight to the coast on Monday, but scored some West at Stevenson on the way back. I had to hit the computer this AM, so I missed morning sailing - but my buddies just walked into the Bagel shop with good reports of the Hatch dawn sesh.

Probably going to be sailing out at the event site this afternoon! Come hang.

You should make a stop here in the Topeka, KS vacinity. Its gernally always windy with a usual 10-15mph winds. I'm the one who made it in May's issue under the title of "A Soldiers Reward" on page 21. We would of loved to of had you stop on buy & windsurf with us at Pamona lake & to meet the rest of the group. Hey we are all hard core windsurfers even though some of us have gone to the dark side, AKA Kiteboarding. So on your way back stop on in. :!:

Started on 5.0 - and switched to 4.2! Plenty powered, too. I came off the water for a quick e-mail sesh, and when I headed back, the wind had lightened up, bu folks were still having fun on the water.

Where you at today?

Well, it's no secret that I'm slightly accident prone.

And it just so happens there's another sailor here in Hood River who also happens to be slightly accident prone - and when we got within fifty feet of each other, disaster was bound to happen.

And it did. It's a good thing we were friends.

My gear suffered - and Kelsey took a beating. I didn't get hurt at all tho.

But gear gets fixed and bodies heal - she's a tough chick and she plans to be back on the water soon - albeit with a seat harness.

I went down to Rowena for the evening sesh - rigged up and got on the water. After getting blown off the water, I came in to call my friends and tell them not to come, and they told me it was gusting to 55 at Rowena. I told them I could verify this personally.

Today, it's work in the morning, out east in the afternoon!

Hi Josh - glad to hear you are ok.

Wow that was quite a BLowOut yesterday. The legendary 17 mile downwinder from Stevenson WA to the EventSite in Hood River started with light wind but ended with 4.5 conditions going through the Hatchery. I saw you taking pictures at the start. Dale Cook won (again) with time of something like 1 hour 6 minutes! Interesting that no kite blowout was done this year - what's the story with that?

They did a Jr blowout from Viento to the Eventsite - sounds like a great idea! Did you get any pics of that?

Looks like a windier day today - perhaps more liquid smoke  See ya on the water - but i'm staying more then 50 feet away :-D

Yeah, the blowout was a kick!

Apparently, the Blowout couldn't get insurance if the kiters were involved, so no kites this year. The rumor was a few kiters were going to crash the party anyways, but none did, as far as I know.

We sailed a little bit yesterday - good fun.

Where were you at?

Hey Josh - yea I saw some kiters when I went thru Viento but I think they had launched from there and were not part of the Blowout.

Where have I been? Well yesterday was 4.8 at the Hatch

Today I don't know. Hey, is it true the BIG BOSS is coming out to shred the Gorge for the rest of the month? I mean the editor, Eddy?? Or is he just coming out to check on you?

Went windsurfing in Corfu this summer and picked up a copy of the instructional issue while there. Good stuff! Practiced my jibes in front of the Greekies; you folks are truly international, eh? :o

Hope your ribs are all patched up  - headin' down Miami way anytime soon, give me a call; Virginia Key misses you. I'll be around until Oct., then back to Eleuthera.
