What is the best mastbase for wave riding.

I have used a Chinook base for a while and then went out into the waves and the mast base clamp popped open after some rough stuff and the mast separated from the board. The mast base was the kind that has two allen screws to atttach to the board and a horizontal sliding pin that holds the base in. Fortunately the wind was blowing on shore because it was impossible to reattach the mast to the board in the waves.

I am looking for a rck solid method to secure the mast base that won't let me down when the going gets rough.

Hopefully some of you experienced wave riders out there have a preference for a trusted mast base and be willing to share it.

What happened to you with a Chinook two bolt system is highly unusual. If yours is the quick release kind, the sliding lock is what gave way. Could it be that the lock was never closed to begin with? If yours is the one where the base cup itself goes directly into the extension without a quick release, then the 2 button collar may have grown weak and replacement will eliminate any pop offs. Show it to the experienced sailor on the beach or your nearby shop.
Personally I want to acquire the Chinook system that uses no bolts except for the ones attaching the tendon itself. If you assemble on your own (for piece of mind) use the RED Lock-Tite made for cylinder blocks as opposed to the BLUE one made to disassemble. Once it's assembled you'll never take it apart.
